Gene Ween To Release Solo Album "Marvelous Clouds"

Ween co-frontman Gene Ween (a.k.a. Aaron Freeman) and bassist Dave Dreiwitz  are getting ready to board the Weezer Cruise next week, but Freeman himself has another fun project in store for us this spring. He's releasing a solo LP called Marvelous Clouds on April 10 via Partisan Records, and it will be a full-album tribute to acclaimed '60s songwriter Rod McKuen.

Check out the teaser trailer for the album below the jump featuring a clip of the song "Jean," and we'll keep you posted on the first full songs we get our hands on.

If you missed out on getting tickets to what was surely an insane Halloween party with Ween back in October (don't feel bad, we didn't make it in either), then the next best thing was seeing co-frontman Aaron Freeman (a.k.a. Gene Ween) along with Ween's bassist Dave Dreiwitz at Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday. Together, and along with cellist Jane Scarpantoni and Freeman's daughter Anna Freeman, the band performed a 25-song set, including Ween favorites "I Don't Want To Leave You on the Farm," "What Deaner Was Talking About," and probably my all-time favorite Ween song, "Birthday Boy."

If you happen to find yourself in Denver, CO towards the end of the year, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket to see Ween at the Fillmore Auditorium on December 29, 30 or 31 (New Year’s Eve). Tickets are currently on sale for all three dates, with a special 3-day package option available. Weezer, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, Gene Ween & more will play the Weezer Cruise

In what appears to be some sort of weird surreal dream I might've had as a fifteen-year old high on NyQuil, Weezer, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, and Gene Ween will share the bill with many, many more, for the Weezer Cruise, which will take place from January 19-23 of 2012. The four day festival, which will also feature younger (and amazing) acts such as the Antlers, Yuck, Wavves, the Nervous Wreckords (featuring Brian Karscig of Louis XIV) and Boom Bip, will sail from Miami, FL to Cozumel, Mexico in one epic, unadulterated, wacky sea adventure in the name of indie rock. The website specifically states that bands will play multiple performances.

In addition to J Mascis and Lou Barlow performing in their respective bands, the two will perform solo sets throughout the cruise, meaning Lou Barlow will be pulling triple duty (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, and solo). I hope the guy packs his Dramamine. You can get the exact details of the pricing scheme over at the Weezer Cruise website, but the most basics I can find are that tickets will be sold individually at $799/person or at $599/person if you travel as a group of four. Pricey for sure, but not when you consider the fact that you will be on a cruise ship with some indisputable rock gods. If I get to share a beer with Lou Barlow, and high-five Gene Ween, then it's totally worth it.
