Despite what The Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame thinks, The Cure are one of the greatest bands of all time, with recent live performances at our own Beacon Theatre to prove it. And to follow up on the recent release of their double-LP Bestival Live 2011 compilation (including "Boys Don't Cry" of course), the band has shared an exclusive clip of their performance of "A Forest" from the festival.
Give it a watch after the jump and be sure to pick up the double album as well - all proceeds will go toward the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.
More shots from The Cure @ Beacon Theatre over here!
Even if you weren't able to attend The Cure's recent Beacon Theatre shows (which were, by all accounts, Completely Fucking Magical), you're still in for a treat. That double-disc live album we mentioned last month, The Cure: Bestival Live 2011, will be available TOMORROW (12/6), and you can now stream the live version of the classic "Boys Don't Cry" over at Sunday Best's Soundcloud page.
All proceeds from the album will go toward the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, a charitable organization offering counseling and services to Isle of Wight residents aged 25 and under. Check out the final tracklist below, and grab a copy tomorrow!
With one host off on the other side of the country, Argon Fritz took it upon himself to produce this week's episode by himself, along with the help of the usual group of weirdos that accompany the studio during Magic Sundae recordings (Debbie, Jen, Redd and FN Editor-in-Chief Chris). This week is an excellent podcast featuring songs from Roy Orbison, Black Francis, The Carpenters, Lana Del Rey, The Cure, David Lynch, The Shirelles and even Nine Inch Nails. If that's not an eclectic mix for you, then I don't know what to say. So I won't. Listen below, and be sure to check out the playlist for last week's episode below.

Last night at the historic Beacon Theatre, The Cure brought their "Reflections" show to a sold out New York City crowd, performing Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith in their entirety along with assorted b-sides and other hits. The show, which began as a two night performance in Australia back in May, features a lineup that includes long-missing keyboardist Lol Tolhurst as well as Roger O'Donnell, along with Simon Gallup on bass and Jason Cooper on drums.
The Cure will do the same thing tonight and tomorrow at Beacon, though tomorrow night's show marks the final time they will be performing these albums in succession like this. So... get a ticket because it's going to be great. Take a look at some photos from last night's show below, as well as the setlist they have been sticking closely to for these shows...

In honor of Dinosaur Jr. releasing their extremely limited edition cassette trilogy this week, and The Cure taking over the Beacon Theatre next week for three very special shows, I present you with a great Melody Maker article from 1989 that I randomly found last night at 2am. Basically, Robert Smith hated Dinosaur Jr.'s cover of "Just Like Heaven," but agreed to randomly meet the band at the urging of some "English guy," just prior to Dinosaur recording their Peel session for the BBC. Read the full article below (click on the images to fully enlarge) and then also be sure to listen to Dinosaur Jr.'s cover of The Cure below in a pretty incredible music video. Special thanks to Archived Music Press for the hi-res scans...
Bummed about not getting tickets yesterday to see The Cure's REFLECTIONS show at Beacon Theatre next month? Well we have some pretty awesome news for you! Our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs have reported (via a tipster at fansite Chain of Flowers) that the legendary band will be releasing a new live album, Bestival Live 2011, on December 6.
Three guesses what's on it. That's right: the full 32-song set they played this September at the U.K.'s Bestival will grace two discs on this release. Check out the full tracklist below, along with video of "Lullaby" (sweeeeet) from Bestival to get a sense of how cool this thing is going to be.
If you thought iMeowww was short on ideas for new songs, you thought wrong. In fact, there's a good chance Ms. Debbie Chou will continue to release a new iMeowww song each and every week for the foreseeable future, culminating in the inevitable full length album of cover songs done entirely in meows, presumably titled I Like To Meow Songs, Okay?
Oh, and I've seen Debbie's notepad... she has at least ten more of these up her sleeve.
For now, enjoy the third iMeowww offering, "Just Like Heavin'"--which of course is a cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven"--complete with totally inaccurate cover art (trying to incorporate a cat into one of The Cure's album covers is not as easy as you think). Enjoy!
Damn, it's been a pretty hairy couple of weeks for our pulse rates, and this kind of news is definitely the reason behind it. As our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs have reported, Fucking Nostalgic legends The Cure announced that they'll be bringing their REFLECTIONS show - which was first done earlier this year in Australia and featured the band performing their first three albums in their entirety - to London, Los Angeles, and NEW YORK F**KING CITY this November.
Yep, that's right - The Cure playing Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith, live and in full, at NYC's Beacon Theatre on November 25, 26, and 27. The band is touting this as your "final chance" to see them do this, so clear your schedules and make this happen. Tickets will be onsale starting at 10am ET on October 31, so keep checking The Cure's website for more info as it comes to light.
I made a mix during my senior year at University of Hartford. This was before podcasts were around and iPods were still chunky. It was just my discman and me, roaming the campus everyday, with the CD of this mix on repeat and sometimes on shuffle. This was during my final semester so I had a lot on my mind—completing works for my composition recital, competing in the regional semi-finals with my a cappella group, asking myself if there is a future with this guy I was seeing, wondering what the fuck I was going to do after I graduate. Those were bittersweet times but it was my best semester.
I graduated, then I had to pack everything and take down the photos from my wall one last time. I had that room all to myself for the entire school year. Boy, if those walls could talk… Anyway, my family helped me pack. They knew I could be slow and inefficient sometimes so they were being a little pushy. The truth was I was dragging my feet because I was too sad. Our family friend drove up from Queens in his van and took my parents and myself to his house where my boxes and suitcases would be stored for the entire summer. I would then spend the next two months in Taipei before I returned to New York for my summer job. After that, Lori and I would go apartment hunting while we submitted our resumes to whoever was hiring. That was all I knew: the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Ah, the unknown.
As we drove away from my dorm, I put my headphones on and listened to my mix once again. The opening track that gave me confidence and energy every morning now made me feel anxious and…well…FUCKING NOSTALGIC. Wow, four years go by so fast. I had great times there. Senior year rocked. Where am I going to live in New York City? What jobs can I get? What funds do I have? When am I going to see my boyfriend again? What can I do with my music? And so on. If only I could go back in time and tell myself that everything will be OK, but I think deep down I knew that already.
This is the exact order of the mix with fewer gaps. None of these songs were popular hits in 2004, so this is nostalgia within nostalgia. Yes, there are two U2 tracks. Yes, there are three songs by The Cure. Welcome to my life in West Hartford, Connecticut. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed my spring of 2004.
