Well Holy Shit: Listen To A New Epic Neil Young & Crazy Horse Jam Session

As if in response to the news that Neil Young & Crazy Horse are reuniting to record new material, a pretty magical thing happened over the weekend. The standard links and highlights that had previously populated Neil Young's website had been replaced with a mysterious video comprised of long, slow shots of instruments and recording equipment... and soundtracked with a newly-recorded 38-minute Neil Young & Crazy Horse jam session!

Said session doesn't include any new material, as such, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy over a half hour's worth jamming that includes bits of "Fuckin' Up" and "Cortez The Killer" in its entirety. Check it out, and we'll keep our eyes out for more goodness to come. [via CoS]

So as most of our readers should be able to guess by now, this has been the post that the staff of Fucking Nostalgic has been waiting to put up since the night of April 2, 2011. That was the night that NYC's dance-punk legends LCD Soundsystem performed their final show ever at Madison Square Garden - an event that was unanimously our favorite concert of the entire year.

We weren't kidding when we said that it was our generation's Stop Making Sense, and now you can see for yourself thanks to the exclusive world premiere trailer for Shut Up And Play The Hits, the documentary capturing this epic show and the 48 hours surrounding it that is set to premiere in full at Sundance later this month (beginning January 22). Holy Shit: Patti Smith To Play New Year's Residency At The Bowery Ballroom

The Original Punk Goddess, Poet, and Pioneer Patti Smith completely blew our minds when she and her band rocked Webster Hall back in September, and Bowery Presents has announced that she'll be back next month to play not one, not two, but THREE shows at NYC's Bowery Ballroom.

We'll wait a moment whilst you put your eyes back in your sockets.

Yes, this trilogy of shows comprise a New Year's residency that begins on December 29 and ends on the 31st. Tickets will go on sale this Friday (11/18) at noon ET, and before you even think of whining about the $45 price, remember that it will be going toward seeing one of the greatest musicians in the world in one of New York's coolest venues.

If the title of this post just completely blew your mind, you're not alone. "Naomi," a standout track from Neutral Milk Hotel's On Avery Island, has received the music video treatment. Not just by anyone, mind you - by Naomi herself, Naomi Yang from the legendary Galaxie 500 (and later Damon & Naomi).

And Yang not only produced this new music video, she stars in it: lipsyncing along with the lyrics inbetween blurry shots of highways, clocks, and nature. I'm going to stop writing now and just let you enjoy the video below, because something like this doesn't just happen every day. Cheers to Pitchfork for the heads up.

Radiohead Announces First Leg Of 2012 Tour

Well Happy Monday to US! As foretold by prophecy, a.k.a. the band themselves, Radiohead will be returning to the US in 2012 to follow up their brief (but awesome) takeover of New York in September with a full-on tour! Having seen them live during said takeover, we can attest that you do NOT want to miss them on this tour as they bring the tracks off of their excellent last album The King of Limbs to life, along with some new songs possibly!

The first leg of the tour kicks off on February 27 in Miami, FL and ends on March 15 in Glendale, AZ, and you can check out the whole list of cities on that leg below courtesy of the band. No NYC shows during that timeframe, which lead us to believe there's likely going to be a multiple-night stay here during the spring or summer concert seasons. But for you lucky folks in the South and Midwest, W.A.S.T.E. presale tickets will be available beginning this Wednesday November 9, with the general sale for all dates except Tampa's to follow this Saturday, November 12 (Tampa will be on the 19th).

New Order Playing London And South America In December

Be still our little nostalgic hearts. Fresh off of playing two shows in Brussels and Paris respectively to raise funds for their ailing friend Michael Shamberg, earlier this week FN mascots New Order announced their first London show in 5 years at the Troxy on December 10. It is now sold out. Bummer.

However, good news for South American fans - the band has JUST announced three more December dates in Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo, and Santiago on December 1, 3, and 5 respectively. You can grab more info about those dates at the band's new website.

So let's get all Angela Landsbury on this. New website. New press photo. New select tour dates. If this ISN'T leading up to a 2012 world tour, we will be extremely surprised. We'll keep you posted on, and likely type excitedly in ALL CAPS about, any NYC dates that materialize. One thing is for sure: Peter Hook is gonna be pissed.

Mission of Burma Announce January 2012 Boston Shows

Longtime readers of Fucking Nostalgic know that we are HUGE fans of Mission of Burma. But to you new readers, take note: we are HUGE fans of Mission of Burma. Which is why we're psyched to share the news that the band has just confirmed a pair of shows in Boston this coming January 20 and 21 at Brighton Music Hall, their first in the city since January 2010. In the interim, they blew our minds here in NYC at Beekman Beer Garden over the summer, so we're definitely road-tripping it up to see them again.

A small number of exclusive fan presale tickets will be available starting tomorrow (11/2) at 10am ET. They've been in the studio for the past few months working on their new album, and you can check out photos on how that's going over here.

Check out this video from their Beekman show and get psyched. If you squint, you can probably see us losing it in the audience.

LCD Soundsystem To Release Final Concert DVD In Early 2012

Seminal dance-punk band and hometown heroes LCD Soundsystem broke many a heart when they disbanded earlier this year - mine included, as I've stressed many times. But of course, they bid their goodbye on April 2 by rolling into Madison Square Garden and putting on one of the greatest concerts I've ever had the pleasure of attending, the memories of which continue to get me awesomely verklempt every time it's brought up. Like now.

Which is why I'm extremely happy to share that frontman James Murphy provided an update this morning on the status the official DVD of the show. He's been flying back and forth between here and London to get everything perfected, and estimates it'll finally be out by early next year. We'll obviously provide more details as they arise, and we fully expect to appear in the credits as "Those People Who Were Totally Losing Their Minds From The Awesomeness Of The Show." Maybe we'll ask him about it when he spins at House of Vans next week.

New Order @ Ancienne Belgique, Brussels (10/17): Setlist And A Ton Of Videos

As we've likely made clear by now, we're not based in Belgium. So what band would prompt us to devote a post to a show that they performed thousands of miles away from our home base in NYC with no corresponding tour to our city yet confirmed? That, my friends, would be British rock legends and one of my favorite bands of all time, New Order.

As faux-hawked former bassist Peter Hook angrily weighed in on, 75% of the band's original lineup - including keyboard player Gillian Gilbert! - reunited this week to play two charity shows to help raise medical expenses for ailing friend Michael Shamberg, the first of which took place last night in Brussels. There are rumors floating around that these shows could lead to an American tour, which I am at least 15,000% in favor of.

And you will be too, once you check out the setlist and select HD videos from their show last night. In addition to playing "1963" live for the first time EVER, the band tore through classics like "Ceremony," "Age of Consent," "Blue Monday," and "Bizarre Love Triangle," my personal favorites "The Perfect Kiss" and "Regret," AND a rendition of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" that likely had Hooky arm-wrenchingly mad.

CONFIRMED: The Stone Roses Reuniting In 2012 For UK Shows and World Tour

Resurrected. What a heartwarming-ass photo.

Well there we have it. After at least a couple thousand false starts and then a glimmer of hope late last week, seminal British rock icons The Stone Roses are FINALLY reuniting in 2012, 16 years after their dissolution.

As confirmed at a press conference at London's Soho Hotel that literally just ended, the band's full original lineup has stopped beefing and will play two shows at Heaton Park in their home base of Manchester on June 29 and 30. Before you start scrounging up cash for a flight over there, though, those shows are the kickoff performances for that full-on Stone Roses WORLD TOUR we've been dreaming of for way too long now. And the best part? Frontman Ian Brown promised that all of our favorite songs will be complemented by NEW SONGS, with the possibility of a new album in the nearish future.

The dudes have a new website up with links to where you can pick up tickets at 9:30am GMT on Friday for the Manchester shows, and they'll be posting up info about the upcoming world tour as soon as available. It goes without saying that we're completely psyched for this news, and will keep you posted on US dates once we know what they are.

New York LCD (Still) Loves You

Longtime readers of Fucking Nostalgic know that we all collectively have a Big Thing for anything LCD Soundsystem-related. We've been skipping pebbles wistfully across ponds ever since they called it quits in April, but always get very excited whenever former band members pop up for DJ gigs around the city. We're also pretty big on House of Vans, which over the summer served as a great venue to see bands like OFF! and Superchunk on the same night.

Which is why it is HUGE news that former LCD masterminds James Murphy and Pat Mahoney have once again let their powers combine as Special Disco Version for a FREE show on November 1 at House of Vans. DFA labelmate (and LCD frontlady Nancy Whang's other band) The Juan Maclean will be on hand to DJ as well, already making this a night designed to make my head explode even before you throw the free beer into the equation.

MASSIVELY AWESOME NEWS: The Cure To Perform "Reflections" Concerts At NYC's Beacon Theatre In November

Damn, it's been a pretty hairy couple of weeks for our pulse rates, and this kind of news is definitely the reason behind it. As our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs have reported, Fucking Nostalgic legends The Cure announced that they'll be bringing their REFLECTIONS show - which was first done earlier this year in Australia and featured the band performing their first three albums in their entirety - to London, Los Angeles, and NEW YORK F**KING CITY this November.

Yep, that's right - The Cure playing Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith, live and in full, at NYC's Beacon Theatre on November 25, 26, and 27. The band is touting this as your "final chance" to see  them do this, so clear your schedules and make this happen. Tickets will be onsale starting at 10am ET on October 31, so keep checking The Cure's website for more info as it comes to light.

Not a bad way to follow up a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, either. Full tour dates and set info after the jump. Holy shit.

OH SHIT: Radiohead Is Touring In 2012, According To Ed O'Brien

OH SHIT is right. While Jonny Greenwood is off in Poland hanging out with Aphex Twin, Radiohead's OTHER guitar virtuoso has just made some late-breaking news of his own. According to Gothamist, O'Brien mentioned in passing during an interview with Argentinian blog Al Tuntún that my favorite band in the world will get back on the road next year to rock songs from their latest release The King of Limbs live for many grateful (and impatient) fans. He's definitely a more reliable source than, say, Jay Electronica, so we're psyched.

In the meantime, we'll have to wait for Radiohead's Saturday Night Live appearance in a couple of weeks - or you can have a listen to the entire TKOL Live From The Basement performance in full and in order thanks to our friend and FN contributor Colin Fitzgerald.

Review: Patti Smith @ Webster Hall, 9/8/11

DAMIEN'S THOUGHTS

"We. Remember. EVERYTHING."

Those three words, spat and snarled out with the conviction of a blood oath, had a sting that will stick with us always. All the moreso because their source was Patti Smith, the true Godmother of Punk, who growled them to a rapt audience at Webster Hall as she literally demolished her black Stratocaster, ripping one string after another off the guitar at the end of her final song of the night, "Rock N Roll Nigger," bringing her outcasts, her people together as one at the end of an electrifying two hour set.

Patti Smith is a fucking legend, and you really don't get how completely true that is until you see her in person. Which is why, when we first heard that she'd be at Webster as the guest of the French public radio network France Inter performing a special set in advance of the 10th anniversary of the September 11 tragedy, we pretty much dropped everything to RSVP and get in. We were far from alone - within 15 minutes of the show's 8pm start time, Webster Hall was packed to near capacity with fans of all ages and nationalities, laser-focused on the stage on which the woman who had such an indelible impact on New York City's music and art scenes and the city's very history itself would soon appear.

Public Enemy Added To ATP America's I'll Be Your Mirror Festival, Performing Fear Of A Black Planet In Full

Yeah, the title of this post summed it up and should have made the whole lot of you simultaneously yell "HOLY SHIT," but let's break it down anyway.

As reported by Pitchfork, the upcoming All Tomorrow's Parties (ATP) America: I'll Be Your Mirror Festival slated to take place in nearby Asbury Park, NJ from September 30 - October 2 is already packed to the brim with performances by festival curators Portishead, indie legend Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Mogwai, Deerhoof, and more. Well it looks like there was a bit more room for mindblowing greatness, as seminal hip-hop group Public Enemy is not only on the bill, but they'll be performing their genre-defining 1990 classic Fear of a Black Planet in full.

They'll be throwing down on Sunday at the Festival - check out the latest ticket options here and the video for "Fight The Power" below the jump, which I last saw a month or two ago at the Museum of Modern F&*king Art (MoMA). You'd better believe Fucking Nostalgic will be onsite for a special ATP report when it all happens.
