Mogwai FINALLY playing NYC 6/14 & 6/15 - tickets still available

Good things come to those who wait. At least that's what we've been telling ourselves in the sixteen months that have passed since buying tickets to Mogwai's two Webster Hall shows--originally scheduled for April of 2011. Enough of retelling the same old story. The dates are finally upon us. The incredible Scottish post-rock band will finally please a hoard of New York-area fans at Webster Hall on June 14 and 15. Tickets are still available for both shows.

Make note of the fact that on Mogwai's own website, Stuart Braithwaite states, "It will likely be the last extensive touring we do for some time so we hope it will be a very special tour." All of Mogwai's tour dates are below.

Balam Acab, who played alongside Mogwai at ATP IBYM in London a couple weeks back, will open both Webster Hall shows (plus the rest of the tour) and you can listen to his subtle, mellow remix of Lana Del Rey's single "Video Games" below..

Grizzly Bear announce new album & tour, listen to "Sleeping Ute"

If you, like I, have been wondering what Grizzly Bear have been up to lately, well look no further than the new song "Sleeping Ute" above. That's what they've been up to.

Well... that and the entire album that will follow this song. It's the first track on their just announced fourth untitled album that will be released September 17. What do you think of it? You can preorder the album from Warp Records starting today.

In conjunction with the album announcement, Grizzly Bear unveiled their world tour that will begin at the end of August, and will find their way to New York City for a triumphant Radio City Music Hall performance on September 24. Tickets will go on presale tomorrow at 11am, with general sale on Friday at 11am. Mark your calendars.

The Hives are Coming to the NYC! (and other places, too!)

Smartly dressed Swedish rockers The Hives are heading this way in June, thankfully returning after tomorrow night's once "secret" show over at the Studio @ Webster Hall. Seriously, who won that contest?!

Starting in May, the boys are taking their skinny-jean-wearing behinds to Europe for a spell, playing a whole shebang of festivals and undoubtedly leaving a trail of swooning, scissor-kicking and stage diving behind them. They're back in the states on June 19th, starting off in DC before playing the NYC's Terminal 5.

Holy Moly: Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival Coming In May (St. Vincent, The Walkmen, Sharon Van Etten, & More)

St. Vincent (photo by Tina Tyrell)

Have you ever gotten the feeling that someone out there has some sort of machine that reads your innermost musical wishes and turns them into reality? Maybe that's just me being kind of nuts, but that seems to be happening quite a bit lately. The latest case in point: a whole ton of our Future Nostalgia favorite artists and bands apparently met up in an Indie Rock Hall of Justice to put together an awesome new three-day music festival taking place here in NYC from May 3 through May 5.

The Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival is being curated by The National's Wonder Twins Bryce & Aaron Desner and will take place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)'s own Howard Gilman Opera House and BAM Cafe. The lineup, of course, reads like an all-star lineup of indie rock greats:  The Walkmen, St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Beirut, The Antlers, Atlas Sound, Twin Shadow, Tyondai Braxton (formerly of Battles), and many more. There will also be films shown at BAM Rose Cinemas, and there will be a closing night DJ Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang, the DFA heroes who were core members of LCD Soundsystem.

Yeah, so you want tickets. Three-day Fest Passes go on general sale on March 6, while day passes go on sale March 12. If you're a Friend of BAM, you get advance presales on March 5 and 8, respectively.

Make it happen, and you bet we'll be right there covering it all.

Mark Lanegan Announces More Tour Dates (Webster Hall In May)

Mark Lanegan Band @ Bowery Ballroom, 2/7/2012
You didn't think he'd stop at just two US shows, did you? Not at all. Gravelly-voiced Mark Lanegan announced this week that he and his band will return to America for a full-on tour around the excellent new LP Blues Funeral following their current European jaunt.

The tour includes a stop at our own Webster Hall on May 10. Tickets for that inevitable awesomeness are on sale TODAY (2/24) at noon ET, so definitely get on that. Check out the other North American tour dates below to see when Lanegan will be rocking your town.

Future Nostalgia: Cass McCombs playing Bowery Ballroom 1/25

Since 2002, when Cass McCombs released his debut EP Not The Way on Monitor Records, the American singer-songwriter has toured and recorded endlessly, releasing five LPs and performing with the likes of Thurston Moore, The Walkmen, Deerhoof and The Arcade Fire. In 2011, McCombs released two critically acclaimed albums, Wit’s End and Humor Risk on Domino Records, the former being an album I listened to on repeat for short bursts of time throughout the year. It’s a record with production that could easily pass as being recorded in 1972, but the songwriting featured throughout is truly unique to McCombs, while also harkening back to artists such as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and John Vanderslice.

Next Wednesday (1/25), Cass McCombs will be making his way to New York City to perform at Bowery Ballroom, for which tickets are still available. Check out his recent video for “The Same Thing,” the single that was released for Humor Risk last year, and also find the remainder of Cass’s tour dates below…

Future Nostalgia: Win a pair of tickets to CHAPPO @ Mercury Lounge this Saturday

If one were to give just a single listen to Brooklyn-based CHAPPO's extremely addictive "Petrified Sand," off their latest EP Plastique Universe II: Pisces Princess, you'd probably be able to pigeonhole their influences in an instant: MGMT, Neon Indian, even Neil Young. But forget for a second who they sound like on the first track... when you dig deeper into the EP and realize that their sound is ultimately defined by their lead singer's extremely dynamic voice--which delves into a Prince-like falsetto, contrasted by random bouts of Marc Bolan-esque growls--you're reminded of just how few bands these days are willing to take risks that many are afraid of.

Luckily for those of us in New York City, CHAPPO will be headlining Mercury Lounge tomorrow night (12/17), and we have a pair of tickets to give away so you can check the band out for yourself. To enter, all you have to do is send an email to chris@fuckingnostalgic.com with "CHAPPO" in the subject, and your first & last name in the body of the email. A winner will be selected at random by 4pm today and notified with details. Your email will not be used for anything other than entering the contest. Be sure to follow the band on their Twitter page to keep up to date on future shows, and below, check out their video for "Come Home," an undeniably catchy track off their last EP Plastique Universe. Good luck, and see you at the show!

The Magnetic Fields Returning With New Album In March + Spring 2012 Tour

Oh HELL yes. There had been some stirring this year from The Magnetic Fields this year with the release of frontmind Stephen Merritt's Obscurities collection and the announcement that the band would be hopping on the bill for a rare festival appearance at the Jeff Mangum-curated All Tomorrow's Parties Minehead event this coming March. Well we've got even MORE great news - The Magnetic Fields will also be releasing their 10th studio album this coming March as well, which will be their first on Merge Records since 1999's excellent 69 Love Songs (Spotify).

Entitled Love At The Bottom Of The Sea and featuring the chicken-based cover art seen above, Merge is releasing the new album on March 6 and taking pre-orders... now. The first 300 LPs ordered will be pressed on limited edition eggshell vinyl, while all CD and Vinyl preorders will come with a Magnetic Fields poster and button. Giddyup.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.

Festival appearances aside, The Magnetic Fields will be back on tour this coming spring throughout North America and Europe, stopping by a Barnes and Noble here in NYC on March 8 right before they head to England to rock Minehead for ATP and then come back for the always-fun SXSW Festival in Austin, TX. They'll be back here again for a proper two-night Beacon Theatre residency on April 3 and 4. Ticket info for all shows can be found here; the pre-sale for the Beacon shows is happening right now and the general sale starts at 11am ET on Friday (12/16). Check out tour dates after the jump along with the new album's tracklisting.

Holy Shit: Patti Smith To Play New Year's Residency At The Bowery Ballroom

Check out our review of Patti Smith's extremely excellent Webster Hall set!

Seriously, emphasis on the Holy Shit.

The Original Punk Goddess, Poet, and Pioneer Patti Smith completely blew our minds when she and her band rocked Webster Hall back in September, and Bowery Presents has announced that she'll be back next month to play not one, not two, but THREE shows at NYC's Bowery Ballroom.

We'll wait a moment whilst you put your eyes back in your sockets.

Yes, this trilogy of shows comprise a New Year's residency that begins on December 29 and ends on the 31st. Tickets will go on sale this Friday (11/18) at noon ET, and before you even think of whining about the $45 price, remember that it will be going toward seeing one of the greatest musicians in the world in one of New York's coolest venues.

Get a taste of what you're in for below, and we'll see you there.

Ted Leo And The Pharmacists Announce New Year's Shows!

Ted Leo And The Pharmacists @ South Street Seaport in July, check our review

File this under "Oh FUCK yeah": Matablog has just revealed the awesome news that Ted Leo And The Pharmacists will be helping New Yorkers (and the Hobokenese) ring in the New Year this year with two nights of shows on December 30 and 31!

They'll be rocking the Bell House on the 30th before heading over Maxwell's on the 31st for New Year's Eve proper, and tickets for both are on sale this Wednesday (November 9) here and here. Ted and the gang's South Street Seaport show was one of the highlights of our summer, so definitely make this happen if you can.

2012 American Songbook Season Adds Thurston Moore, Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), & More

Check out more photos from Thurston Moore's Music Hall Of Williamsburg performance over here!

Known for its diverse array of performers and styles, Lincoln Center's celebrated American Songbook series is returning on January 12 to explore the best in American popular song across all genres. A couple of notable indie rock names on the roster, however, are Sonic Youth co-founder Thurston Moore (who we're kind of huge fans of here) as well as Future Nostalgia candidate Merill Garbus, a.k.a. tUnE-yArDs (who coincidentally enough covered Sonic Youth earlier this year).

Thurston Moore will be rocking a solo acoustic set on February 2, while tUnE-yArDs will nab the February 9 slot at NYC's world-renowned music and arts center. Tickets are onsale beginning November 14 - check out the American Songbook website for further details on packages and the full lineup of artists for the month.

CONFIRMED: The Stone Roses Reuniting In 2012 For UK Shows and World Tour

Resurrected. What a heartwarming-ass photo.
Well there we have it. After at least a couple thousand false starts and then a glimmer of hope late last week, seminal British rock icons The Stone Roses are FINALLY reuniting in 2012, 16 years after their dissolution.

As confirmed at a press conference at London's Soho Hotel that literally just ended, the band's full original lineup has stopped beefing and will play two shows at Heaton Park in their home base of Manchester on June 29 and 30. Before you start scrounging up cash for a flight over there, though, those shows are the kickoff performances for that full-on Stone Roses WORLD TOUR we've been dreaming of for way too long now. And the best part? Frontman Ian Brown promised that all of our favorite songs will be complemented by NEW SONGS, with the possibility of a new album in the nearish future.

The dudes have a new website up with links to where you can pick up tickets at 9:30am GMT on Friday for the Manchester shows, and they'll be posting up info about the upcoming world tour as soon as available. It goes without saying that we're completely psyched for this news, and will keep you posted on US dates once we know what they are.

Fuck yeah, you guys.

CMJ 2011 Preview: Shonen Knife (10/22 At Public Assembly)

Hey kids. As we mentioned a few weeks back, Fall is looking like an especially busy season for us here at Fucking Nostalgic. We've already got some cool surprises lined up for you for this weekend's All Tomorrow's Parties I'll Be Your Mirror festival, and thanks to general awesomeness we're happy to say that we'll be covering this year's CMJ 2011 Marathon here in NYC as well.

One of the many reasons we're psyched for this annual local festival is that a band we've loved, covered, and even interviewed - Japanese pop-punk legends Shonen Knife - will be in town to play a set at Williamsburg's Public Assembly on October 22 as part of the Panache Booking & Bruise Cruise Showcase. Tickets are still on sale for the show, so for a mere $10 you can catch these pioneers celebrate their 30th anniversary while paying tribute to one of THEIR favorite bands, The Ramones, under their Osaka Ramones moniker. Do it.

As you wait for that show to happen, here's a really weird oldschool video of Shonen Knife hanging out with Nirvana after their 1991 tour of the UK.

Watch: Low Performs "Nightingale" On KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic

Hey, you know what band we love an infinite amount more than Spin Doctors? That's right, Low. We've been covering them since the very beginnings of Fucking Nostalgic, so any opportunity to see them be great is a welcome one.

Lucky for us, someone had a camera rolling when they stopped by KCRW's excellent Morning Becomes Eclectic and performed "Nightingale" off of their latest release C'Mon. Check it out above, listen to the full show over here, and go see Low when they come back to NYC on October 12 for their show with Iron & Wine, for which tickets are still inexplicably available.

Ladytron have a new single, playing Terminal 5 10/8

On September 13, Ladytron will release their highly anticipated fifth studio album Gravity the Seducer, their first album since 2008's Velocifero. That is the album art above. Over the past couple of months the UK-based act have been releasing singles from the album, and on Tuesday they revealed their latest song, "Mirage" on the Nettwerk Music Group's website.

Ladytron are about to embark on a tour in support of Gravity the Seducer, which will come to New York City on October 8 at Terminal 5. VHS or Beta and Sonoio will open the all ages show and tickets are still on sale. You can take a listen to "Mirage," as well as three other songs off the upcoming album below, as well as all of Ladytron's tour dates, below the jump.
