Listen To Wire's "The Black Session" In Its Entirety

Wire @ MHOW, 4/5/11
Post-punk legends Wire have had a live album recorded during an intimate performance in Paris last spring floating about in limited edition form for awhile, and we've obviously been dying to get our hands on it. But now, in advance of its worldwide February 7 release, our friends at Slicing Up Eyeballs note that The Black Session - Paris 10 May 2011 is currently available for streaming.

And thanks to the magic of embed codes, you can do just that after the jump! Be sure to pick it up next week as well, and if you happen to be in Germany on February 11 you can see them at the Ox 100 Festival in Solingen.

Wire Releasing "Black Session" Live Album Worldwide

Check out more photos of Wire @ MHOW in April over here!

Happy Friday to fans of the legendary British post-punk rockers Wire and of radical music in general. The band has captured the greatness of their recent live shows (having been touring extensively behind their latest album Red Barked Tree all year with new touring guitarist Matt Simms) in a new live album called The Black Session - Paris 10 May 2011. This release has only available for purchase at the shows comprising the most recent UK leg of their tour, so you were kinda shit out of luck if you weren't able to go.

But now Slicing Up Eyeballs reports that the band will be making The Black Session available to everyone on February 7 in a worldwide release, so definitely grab that when it comes out as it's probably the closest you're personally going to get to seeing them play "Pink Flag" in a Paris studio. Check out the tracklisting below the jump.

Photos: Wire @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

Post-punk legends Wire blasted through their set last night (4/5), complete with two encores at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Anyone who knows anything about Wire knows that they approach their career like sharks; moving forward and never looking back. In other words, not the most nostalgic band (you'll rarely see them playing anything off of fan favorites Pink Flag or Chairs Missing)(we did get the song "Pink Flag" last night though). But it doesn't matter when their recent output is just as good, just as catchy, and just as punk as their earlier work. Weekend, a band I kept hearing about during SXSW last month, were worthy openers. Though you couldn't hear the vocals at all (pretty sure that was intentional), they played extremely melodic, shoegazy tunes, performed with the energy and intensity of a classic '77 punk band.

Wire will play the Bowery Ballroom tonight (4/6) with Madensuyu. Tickets are still on sale. Full set of photos of both bands and Wire's setlist is below.

Fucking Nostalgic #1 (Schizophrenia) by csgersbeck

Welcome

Hello -

I fervently follow and admire new music, yet when a veteran band like Mission of Burma releases a new album, I can't help but admit that it blows 99% of what I listen to out of the water. Hence "Fucking Nostalgic." Because I'll always be fucking nostalgic about what shaped my musical tastes, and I'm sure many avid music listeners will say the same. There is a stigma attached to "reunion" tours that they are about nothing but cashing in. But as Polvo, Mudhoney, Wire and Dinosaur Jr. have taught me, truly innovative and original bands cease to hang up their creativity with age.

Stay tuned for live concert photos/reviews, interviews, weekly vinyl mixtapes, essays, and in depth album reviews from music's past.
