Remember that time Mission of Burma completely kicked our heads' asses at Beekman?

Permit us to freak right the fuck out. Fucking Nostalgic patron saints Mission of Burma (seriously, they're one of this site's main inspirations) are hard at work on their next album, and recently confirmed two January shows in Boston. While we'd have been more than happy to roadtrip it up there to hang out, they've done us one better by announcing a NEW YORK CITY show on January 19, one day prior to their Boston shows.

Tickets are on sale this Saturday (12/3) at noon ET, and you would be completely silly to not come to this show.

Hey kids, hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving mini-vacation! A good portion of that likely consisted of you being inundated with Black Friday / Cyber Monday marketing messaging urging you to buy shit you likely don't need now immediately NOW, but there were indeed some really cool gems under the surface of all that.

For example - as part of Record Store Day, cult favorite San Diego rockers Pinback released part 2 of their Information Retrieved 7" trilogy, which is intended to hold us over until they f*&king finally release the full-length follow-up to 2007's Autumn of the Seraphs. And because the Internet exists, you can now listen to its A-side, "True North," after the jump; in typical Pinback fashion, it's gorgeous and awesome and making me antsy for everything to come. (Cheers to Stereogum for the heads up.)

Holy Shit: Patti Smith To Play New Year's Residency At The Bowery Ballroom

The Original Punk Goddess, Poet, and Pioneer Patti Smith completely blew our minds when she and her band rocked Webster Hall back in September, and Bowery Presents has announced that she'll be back next month to play not one, not two, but THREE shows at NYC's Bowery Ballroom.

We'll wait a moment whilst you put your eyes back in your sockets.

Yes, this trilogy of shows comprise a New Year's residency that begins on December 29 and ends on the 31st. Tickets will go on sale this Friday (11/18) at noon ET, and before you even think of whining about the $45 price, remember that it will be going toward seeing one of the greatest musicians in the world in one of New York's coolest venues.

Julian Koster (The Music Tapes) Announces 2011 Holiday Caroling Tour, Releases New Music Tapes Video

Julian Koster, former touring member of Neutral Milk Hotel, current touring member of Olivia Tremor Control, and frontman for his own The Music Tapes, is an eccentric guy. I think that quality is a prerequisite for admission to the Elephant Six Collective… they’re all pretty wacky in their own ways. So it really comes as no surprise that Koster today has announced that, following an annual tradition since 2008, he and his Caroling Ambassadors of singing saws will be accepting invitations to carol at homes along the East Coast of the US and Canada from November 28 to December 12.

That’s right… invite Julian to carol at your home and he will make it happen. The final list of dates will be announced just prior to the commencement of the tour. If you’d like to invite Koster, email musictapescaroling2011@gmail.com. We here at FN, like pretty much every sane person in the world, love the hell out of Yo La Tengo. And it's been my personal mission for way too many years now to see one of their legendary Hanukkah shows at Maxwell's in nearby Hoboken. Well on Friday (10/28) at noon, the time will come again to fight tooth and nail for tickets, as the venue has just announced all eight shows are on for December 20 through December 27.
