Watch: Argon Fritz - "Apples For Apple Snax"

We don’t post much in the way of comedy around here, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not huge fans of it. And since this video was created by FN contributor Colin Fitzgerald (under the moniker of Argon Fritz), we felt the need to post about it. After all, who isn’t nostalgic about watching Ron Popeil infomercials as a kid—on some Sunday afternoons that’s all there was on TV. This video, “Apples for Apple Snax,” takes footage from the infamous infomercial and makes it 8 million times more disturbing. Enjoy!

With no idea what to expect, I hit up the Wet Hot American Summer 10th Anniversary Celebration with high expectations nonetheless. I knew it wouldn’t be a screening of the film, and that comedy troupe Stella would be hosting, but little else. The presence of Stella was both baffling and exciting to me. The three members of Stella were all vital components to WHAS, yet do not appear in the film as Stella. Director and Stella co-founder David Wain doesn’t even appear in the film at all. Being a massive Stella fan I was psyched to hear they were hosting, but was uncertain why they would chose to do it ‘in character.’ Although David Wain, Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter (the latter two being primary cast members) are addressed by name in Stella, they are definitely in character. As it turned out, this was a brilliant move.

If there was any day for there to be an outdoor show in Brooklyn, Friday was not that day. At least for the first portion of the night. I unfortunately couldn't stick around for the entire show (and the pouring rain was a dealbreaker), but from everything I've heard, They Might Be Giants put on a great performance Friday night in front of tons of soaking wet fans. And my prediction was proven wrong that they would inevitably play "Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head" due to the fact that the video for that song was filmed at the exact location of the Williamsburg Waterfront. They did however play classics such as "Birdhouse In Your Soul" (their opening song), "Don't Let's Start" and "Ana Ng," before playing Apollo 18's "Fingertips" in its entirety as an encore. Plus a few songs from their recently released Join Us, which is available in stores and on Spotify now.

The opening portion of the show was comedian Eugene Mirman and "Pretty Good Friends," which included Jim Gaffigan, Kristen Schaal, Todd Barry and Patton Oswalt. Yo La Tengo's upcoming Wheel Spin Shows @ the Bell House

I am pretty excited for the upcoming Wheel Spin Yo La Tengo shows that were just announced for Brooklyn’s Bell House on 5/10 & 5/11. The essential indie group from Hoboken, despite having some deeply moving songs, also have a connection with the alternative comedy scene. And the fact that there’s a possibility the trio will act out a classic sitcom is reason enough to buy a ticket to at least one of these.

I caught two of Yo La Tengo’s notorious Hanukkah shows back in December, one where Jeff Tweedy was the opener and the other where Mission of Burma not only opened, but merged to form the supergroup Yo La Burma. Blasting through a slew of covers, it was pretty fucking nostalgic. Needless to say, but Yo La have a vast catalogue of music so every show is completely different. Tickets for both shows go on sale tomorrow, 4/1 at noon. Read Yo La Tengo's official (and wacky) statement below...
