Announced only two days prior, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlined a benefit on Friday for beloved New York City DJ Jonathan Toubin, who was seriously injured in a freak accident on December 8. Amongst the other acts on the bill, including Heavy Trash and Stabbing Eastward (featuring Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio), were DJs Gibby Haynes of Butthole Surfers and Billy Miller of Norton Records. Quite the lineup indeed--a great show for a great cause.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio) Playing Jonathan Toubin Benefit Friday

New Yorkers get a bad rap for being self-absorbed assholes (which isn't necessarily UNtrue), but one thing is for sure: in tragic times, we try our best to come together to help each other out. Our local music community experienced one such tragic time recently, when acclaimed DJ and nightlife wizard Jonathan Toubin was involved in a taxi accident in Portland, Oregan that left him in critical condition.

This Friday, Brooklyn Bowl will be hosting a benefit for Toubin that will feature great performances by several local artists whose lives he's touched - namely the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Stabbing Eastward featuring Tunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio. Tickets are only $25 and all proceeds go toward his medical bills and care.  The iHeartJT Facebook group has also set up a PO Box for additional donations if you're unable to make it but still want to help out.

Listen: Trent Reznor & Karen O. Cover Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" For "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is the man you want to score your Hollywood blockbuster, and he's got the Golden Globe to prove it. That win hasn't slowed him down in the least, though - he and partner Atticus Ross have continued to spend this year churning through the score for the upcoming David Fincher film adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

While I admittedly know nothing about the book, the movie itself looks pretty badass, and one standout track from the score itself is Reznor's teamup with Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O. on a cover of Led Zeppelin's classic "Immigrant Song." Providing further evidence for our "Karen O. Turns Everything She Guests On To Gold" theory, the cover features her rocking an excellent Robert Plant wail over Reznor's thundering NIN instrumentals.

Well This Is Awesome: David Lynch -- "Pinky's Dream" (Feat. Karen O)

Well now. I kind of always assumed that, of all the tracks off of David Lynch's upcoming album Crazy Clown  Time, "Pinky's Dream" would be the clear standout. Chiefly because, when you invite Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to rock vocals for you, outstanding things tend to happen - and when said vocals are on a track written by David F%^king Lynch, you know you're in for a great time.

Well thanks One Thirty BPM capturing the song's premiere on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, we now know that this song is indeed totally great. Slinky ghostly vocals over a driving beat produce a song that needs to appear again on the soundtrack to whatever David Lynch does next. Stream AND download it over here. You'll likely stream it several times, because it's very, very cool.

David Lynch Invites You To Join Him For "Crazy Clown Time"

Cinematic master of the surreal (read: pretty damn weird) David Lynch is back with a new project... but unlike his famed works Twins Peaks, Eraserhead, and Mulholland Drive, this one isn't coming to a TV or movie screen near you. Lynch is stepping into a new medium and releasing his debut album, Crazy Clown Time (yep), via Sunday Best Recordings / PIAS on November 8.

The album's 14 original tracks see the filmmaker on vocals and guitar, and two tracks previewed late last year - "Good Day Today" and "I Know" - received some pretty interesting/hilarious feedback, as follows:

“Frightening effects and mysterious lyrics: this is Lynch's most unexpected venture to date.” -- The Los Angeles Times

“Every bit as pleasantly odd as you might imagine from Lynch.” -- The Washington Post

In another curveball move from a man known for curveballs, the album will also feature Karen O. from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs singing vocals on Crazy Clown Time's leadoff track "Pinky's Dream."
