FN News Roundup: April 16, 2012

WELL HELLO THERE. How was your weekend? Pretty great? Cool, happy to hear it. Have some news, won't you?

  • WERE YOU AWARE: Coachella happened over the weekend! It's also happening again NEXT weekend, for the first time in its history! The Internet being how it is, you can likely find professional-or-otherwise footage of everything that happened, but to boil it down: Radiohead was there, and so was an apparently pretty cool but still very odd holographic Tupac. Check out footage of both of those happenings below the jump (Stereogum)

  • If you happened to be here in NYC over the weekend, you had the opportunity to see the original mid-'90s lineup of Hole (including Courtney Love) perform two songs together for the low low price of $10 at Brooklyn's Public Assembly. But even if you were here, you probably missed it. Ah well, that's what YouTube is for! (Consequence of Sound)

  • One of the great joys of music news reporting is that, every so often, you hear about something that seems designed to blow your mind specifically. St. Vincent teaming up with former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne to release a new album this Fall is very much an example of tha-YAAAAAAY!!! (Rolling Stone)

  • M. Ward is playing Prospect Park with Yo La Tengo on August 7, with tickets on sale this Friday (4/20). Sometimes you really don't need to set up a news item at all (BrooklynVegan)

  • Ah what the hell, let's watch Jeff Mangum's full Coachella too (Beats Per Minute)

FN News Roundup: April 11, 2012

Hey babies! Here's some news you can read to pass the time while waiting to get rocked in the face by Pulp at Radio City Music Hall, if you're lucky.

  • Let's start off with a case of Festival Envy: Lollapalooza has announced the lineup for the 2012 iteration of the Chicago event, including The Afghan Whigs, Jack White, Black Sabbath, The Black Keys, At The Drive-In, Sigur Ros, Bloc Party... oh yeah and Red Hot Chili Peppers (Lollapalooza)

  • Hip-hop legend / A Tribe Called Quest former frontman Q-Tip has signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label, and will be releasing a new solo album, potentially called The Last Zulu, sometime next year. He's also been in the studio with Kendrick Lamar and Fiona Apple, because obviously. (Pitchfork)

  • In "Fucking Adorable" news, tUnE-yArDs has a new video out for w h o k i l l leadoff track "My Country." Check it out after the jump, and be sure to support the warpainted kids in the video by funding the San Francisco Rock Project Lending Library on  Kickstarter (Kickstarter)

  • ...And on the opposite eend of that spectrum, peep OFF!'s new video for "Wiped Out" from their upcoming self-titled 16-minute LP below too (Consequence of Sound)

  • And finally, we've got footage of M. Ward rocking through A Wasteland Companion's "Primitive Girl" on Conan from last night below too

FN News Roundup: March 26, 2012

Mission of Burma @ MHOW, 1/19/2012

Hoooooly crap a LOT of great things happened today. Let's get to it.

  • FN heroes Mission of Burma will continue rocking our faces off with their new LP Unsound, which will drop on July 9 via their new label Fire Records. Check out leadoff track "Dust Devil" below. Do it. We'll wait. Why are you still reading this (Pitchfork)

  • In what is probably the biggest tease ever for me and every other Amurrican New Order fan, frontman Bernard Sumner has confirmed in a post-Ultra Festival interview that the legendary band will be back in the US for more shows once they've fulfilled other dates worldwide. I'll just stand here with my credit card out, Bernard (Slicing Up Eyeballs)

  • NEW SIGUR ROS ALBUM (VALTARI) ON MAY 9! STREAM TITLE TRACK BELOW! IT'S COOL IF YOU TEAR UP A LITTLE (Consequence of Sound)

  • New Liars album on June 5! (Mute)

  • Tenacious D. 2012 Tour. Hammerstein Ballroom on June 28. Tickets on sale this Friday at 10am ET. Really no need for me to tell you how excited to get here. (BrooklynVegan)

  • Stream M. Ward's new album A Wastland Companion! There's a LOT less Zooey Deschanel on this, so that's already a reason to like it (NPR)

  • New(ish) Japandroids single? Yes! 2012 Tour bringing them to Bowery Ballroom on June 26 for a sweaty awesome rock show? Yes Squared. (Stereogum)

  • 22 seconds of the first new Soundgarden song are available now. Juuuuuust enough to blueball SG fans until the release of The Avengers soundtrack (or, knowing the Internet, a couple weeks from now) (Rock It Out)
