What do you get when you combine the raw energy and weirdness of The Shaggs with the coherency of The Raincoats and the three part harmonies of That Dog? You'd probably end up with a record that sounds something like the recently released Internal Logic by San Francisco-based trio Grass Widow.
The new record, self-released by the band on their own HLR record label, is reminiscent of all the aforementioned female-fronted groups but with the freshness and accessibility that is sure to catch on quickly. I swear, sometimes records are written to directly cater to my tastes, and this is one of them. Listen to "Goldilocks Zone" below and decide for yourself...
The trio have been touring the East Coast and are making their way up to New York City to play the Northside Festival (mentioned in FN's Guide to Summer in NYC). On June 16 at the Knitting Factory you can catch Grass Widow during Panache's official Northside showcase. Tickets for the showcase are available now for $12. While you're at it, purchase a copy of Internal Logic, listen to the entire album via Spotify below and check out all of the band's tour dates...
