New Sigur Rós Album Coming In Spring 2012

Lots of great news to report out of the Sigur Rós camp lately. Their live album / film opus INNI just dropped worldwide this week (except here, but you can still watch the first 10 minutes of the film), and in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal, the band has announced that they have a brand new studio album set for release this spring.

Here are the juicy bits from the interview in case you're short on time or something:

"The band's next album is scheduled for release in the spring. Based on excerpts presented by Mr. Sveinsson, the new music promises to be as exceptional as the best of the band's catalog. Mr. Hólm called it "introverted," while Mr. Birgisson said it was "floaty and minimal." "An ambient album" was how Mr. Dýrason described it, with "a slow takeoff toward something." For a visitor who heard a preliminary recording in which Mr. Birgisson's falsetto was surrounded by rich choral voices and what sounded like a pipe organ, the music was thrilling."

Hell yes to that. We'll keep you posted as we learn more about the project and definitely once the first tracks surface.
