This Week's Nostalgia (5/21-5/27)

by Trista Hou (Bingshu Hou)

Whether you prefer the White Stripes or maybe just his art, Jack White's recent solo album Blunderbuss (stream it below) has received critical acclaim amongst the most prestigious of music sites. Though it is White's solo debut, the influence of his former bands White Stripes, Dead Weather and Raconteurs can still be found. Wanna reminiscence as well as explore his new material? Find him on Monday and Tuesday at Roseland Ballroom, especially for those who couldn't squeeze yourself into the packed show last month in Webster Hall.

Garbage. Haven't heard from this band in... seven years! Just a week ago, their latest album Not Your Kind of People had its worldwide release. The Guardian gave the album four out of a possible five stars, calling it "a beautiful, otherworldly cross between a John Barry Bond theme and a David Bowie outsider anthem." Tuesday at Webster Hall, get ready for a feast of seeing and hearing.

FN News Roundup: April 3, 2012

News time, my droogs!

  • There's a tribute show for the legendary Curtis Mayfield taking place on July 20 at Lincoln Center. Considering Mavis StaplesAloe Blacc, Tunde & Kyp from TV On The Radio, and The Impressions involved, you're going to want to be too - tickets on sale now (BrooklynVegan)

  • It's been a good three years since 2009's Eating Us, but Black Moth Super Rainbow are officially recording new music!! Check out the great new cut "Spraypaint," and we'll keep an eye out for more (Pitchfork)

  • Two of our favorite (and loudest) Future Nostalgia bands, Ceremony and Screaming Females, are letting their powers combine for a Spring / Summer tour! Kinda! While they won't be on the same bill here in NYC (Ceremony's got two shows on April 23 at Terminal 5 and Mercury Lounge, while Screaming Females will be here this Friday at The Bell House), they'll be rocking together in June from Austin, TX to Hamden, CT (Consequence of Sound)

  • Speaking of Screaming Females, you can stream their new LP Ugly and pick it up via Don Giovanni today! (SPIN)

  • Take this with the huuuuge grain of salt you need to apply to pretty much all NME articles, but the sons of The Beatles might form a band together. Once again: HUGE grain of salt (NME)

  • Haven't been able to see the most excellent Deer Tick live? Wanna see them again, with the Levon Helm Band? Well get thee to Beacon Theatre this Friday! Tickets are still on sale (PhotoEveryone)

  • And we'll head out into the night with the official video for Garbage's "Blood For Poppies" - their first new video in five years! - off of their upcoming album Not Your Kind Of People (due out May 15) (Spinner)

FN News Roundup: March 12, 2011

Hi! Have some news.

  • (Hopefully not former) Sonic Youth axeman and generally great guy Lee Ranaldo's new album, Between the Times and the Tides, is out next Tuesday (3/20), but you can stream all of its goodness right now over at Rolling Stone. (RS)
  • Legendary Minutemen bassist and also generally great guy Mike Watt is publishing a new memoir this May entitled On And Off Bass. He'll also be celebrating the release of this inevitably awesome book with two parties in NY and LA, the local version of which will take place on May 5 at Le Poisson Rouge and feature him & Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis and Murph performing as Hellride East (Slicing Up Eyeballs)
  • Go see Garbage on tour! No, that pun will never get old, but you really ought to see Shirley Manson and the gang when they roll through the East Coast and Canada. The tour will include a stop at Webster Hall on May 22, with ticket info coming soon. (Garbage)
  • Remember The Hives? They're back, in Pog form! Or more accurately, with a new album called Les Hives dropping on June 5 - check out its leadoff single "Go Right Ahead." (Stereogum
  • Those Battles remixes we've been talking about are coming out as a full-on Dross Glop LP on April 17 via Warp. You'll also want to check out Battles drummer John Stanier and Black Moth Super Rainbow throw down a DJ set this Friday at The American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center - grab a ticket! (BrooklynVegan)

Listen to 60 Seconds of Garbage (the band!)

Just a mere moment (read: a couple weeks) ago, in a pre-February world, Damien let us know that Garbage was returning this May with their fifth studio album, Not Your Kind of People

Today you can hear a 60 second teaser of their latest, "I Hate Love," which also happens to showcase some pretty rad artwork by fans. Watch the magic unfold after the jump.

Oh, Shirley, it's so nice to hear that voice again.

Garbage Returns With First New Studio Album In Seven Years

If you had ears in the 1990s, then it's extremely likely that you've heard a song by Madison, WI alt-rockers Garbage at least once. It doesn't feel that long ago that frontwoman Shirley Manson's voice popped up literally everywhere I turned, but apparently their last studio album, Bleed Like Me, came out about seven years ago.

Get ready to hear Manson's trademark wail again soon though. As The Audio Perv reports, the band is set to release their fifth studio album, Not Your Kind Of People, on May 15 and head back on the road for a series of European headlining and festival tour dates.

Check out a recent video update from Garbage about the new record below, and the video for "Special" because screw you that song was awesome.
