FN News Roundup: April 17, 2012

Dedicating this post to Levon Helm... our thoughts and love are with you and your family.

  • After many hints, teases, singles, videos, and even a balloon launch, you can finally stream Jack White's new LP Blunderbuss a week in advance of its physical release. And in case you didn't grab a ticket to his upcoming Webster Hall show earlier today, the whole thing is going to be livestreamed. And directed by Gary Oldman. Who also happens to be Commissioner Gordon in movies sometimes (Pitchfork)

  •  Hey, didja like "Flutes"? We sure did. But it turns out that that's not the first official single from Hot Chip's upcoming LP In Our Heads. That honor belongs to "Night And Day," which you can stream now all of its Prince-nudging goodness and pick up on 12" vinyl on June 4, 8 days before the full album drops.  Not to get unduly excited too early, but this new LP might be their best in history ever (Domino Records)

  • Not content to chill out even after dazzling us New Yorkers with a 10-night residencyBjörk has kicked off an eight-part Biophilia remix series this week. Check out the first entry, Current Value's "Crystalline" remix, after the jump. Very Nine Inch Nails-y (Purple)

  • Van Halen is back! Again! They'll be playing the Izod Center in Joisey with Ky-Mani Marley (son of Bob) opening on July 13 - tickets are on sale on April 23 (BrooklynVegan)

  • And oh hell yes, Ceremony actually WILL be playing with Screaming Females here in NYC, at Brooklyn's Warsaw as part of the Northside Fest on June 14! (Matador

FN News Roundup: April 3, 2012

News time, my droogs!

  • There's a tribute show for the legendary Curtis Mayfield taking place on July 20 at Lincoln Center. Considering Mavis StaplesAloe Blacc, Tunde & Kyp from TV On The Radio, and The Impressions involved, you're going to want to be too - tickets on sale now (BrooklynVegan)

  • It's been a good three years since 2009's Eating Us, but Black Moth Super Rainbow are officially recording new music!! Check out the great new cut "Spraypaint," and we'll keep an eye out for more (Pitchfork)

  • Two of our favorite (and loudest) Future Nostalgia bands, Ceremony and Screaming Females, are letting their powers combine for a Spring / Summer tour! Kinda! While they won't be on the same bill here in NYC (Ceremony's got two shows on April 23 at Terminal 5 and Mercury Lounge, while Screaming Females will be here this Friday at The Bell House), they'll be rocking together in June from Austin, TX to Hamden, CT (Consequence of Sound)

  • Speaking of Screaming Females, you can stream their new LP Ugly and pick it up via Don Giovanni today! (SPIN)

  • Take this with the huuuuge grain of salt you need to apply to pretty much all NME articles, but the sons of The Beatles might form a band together. Once again: HUGE grain of salt (NME)

  • Haven't been able to see the most excellent Deer Tick live? Wanna see them again, with the Levon Helm Band? Well get thee to Beacon Theatre this Friday! Tickets are still on sale (PhotoEveryone)

  • And we'll head out into the night with the official video for Garbage's "Blood For Poppies" - their first new video in five years! - off of their upcoming album Not Your Kind Of People (due out May 15) (Spinner)

Happy Spring, true believers! We've got a glut of great news to share today, check it:

  • Oh yes. As foretold by the seers, Neil Young And Crazy Horse will be releasing their new LP Americana on June 5. The legends' first new album since 2003's Greendale AND the first to feature the full Crazy Horse lineup since 1996's Broken Arrow will be a full-on American folk tribute with tracks like "This Land Is Your Land" and "Oh Susannah" (Rolling Stone)

  • Tickets for Hot Chip's 2012 summer shows are on sale!!!!! (Hot Chip)

  • Check out the video for "Adult" from Ceremony's very awesome new LP Zoo below (Matador)

  • Stream Sharon Van Etten's Tramp B-Side "Life of His Own," and then catch her on Conan later on tonight! (Pitchfork)

  • Questlove of The Roots continues to be a total badass by curating Shuffle Culture at BAM, a two-night (April 19 & 20) musical experience featuring Reggie Watts, Deerhoof, & more! (BAM)

  • Sub Pop will be fully rocking Record Store Day (April 21) with a limited edition blue vinyl 7" of rare & unreleased Beach House tracks, an artist sampler, and much more. You can pre-order Beach House's new album Bloom (out May 15) to get it on limited edition white vinyl. Good times, guys (Sub Pop)

Fucking Nostalgic News Roundup: March 6, 2012

It's News Roundup O'Clock! So far it's been a pretty weird day overall - check out updates from MELVINS, Atlas Sound, Ceremony, and more below:

  • Guess what? You can now bid on a piece of MELVINS / Nirvana history: the MELVAN (pictured above), featuring a KISS mural drawn by Kurt Cobain and a registration signed by MELVINS bassist Matt Lukin (EBay)

  • Deerhunter / Atlas Sound mastermind Bradford Cox apparently went pretty nuts at Minneapolis's Cedar Cultural Center and played an hour-long version of "My Sharona" over the weekend (Pitchfork)

  • Ceremony are playing a late show at Mercury Lounge on April 23 following their opening set for Refused at T5 - tickets are on sale tomorrow. (BrooklynVegan)

  • Three-Day Passes for the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival tickets are on sale right now!

Stream Ceremony's "Zoo" In Its Entirety At SPIN

Ceremony @ Le Poisson Rouge 2/4/12
Ceremony @ Le Poisson Rouge, 2/4/2012
We've been paying a lot of attention to Cali hardcore thrashers Ceremony since their killer set at our own Le Poisson Rouge earlier this month, and now you can personally check out why we've been so psyched for the release of their new album Zoo. Not content to leave the streaming album game to NPR, SPIN Magazine is running an exclusive stream of Ceremony's latest on their website right now. Give it a spin, and be sure to catch them when they rock through your city too!

News Roundup: February 21, 2012 ("A Ton Of Stuff Happened" Edition)

Yo. So as always seems to be the case after a long weekend, a TON of cool announcements dropped today. The FN staff is scrappy, sure, but still rather small (wanna join us?), so we couldn't grab up everything today.

When that happens, we turn to the informative power of... THE NEWS ROUNDUP!... to give you guys all the tips, links, and general goodness we saw out there and smiled and nodded at. Lots of really good stuff today too, so check it below:

--- Pulp added a second show at Radio City Music Hall - tickets are on sale now.

--- Speaking of legendary Brit-pop acts, Blur played The Brit Awards this evening (via CoS)! Check out some videos. They're also headlining the London 2012 Olympic Closing ceremonies, along with The Specials and, oh, NEW ORDER.

--- Rufus Wainwright is coming back to Amurrica in May, including a local show at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) on May 9. Presale tickets are on sale now, as are just general tickets to shows taking place shortly after in California.

--- tUnE-yArDs! Her crazy awesomeness is going on a big Summer 2012 Tour, including a stop at Terminal 5 on June 1. No one really likes T5, but she has a way of making everything excellent, so buy a ticket to that or other shows on the East Coast and briefly in Canada.

--- Matador unveiled the third single from Ceremony's upcoming album, Zoo, called "Adult." This album is clearly going to rule.

--- Public Image Ltd. revealed more details about that upcoming album we told you about (via P4K).

Did we forget anything rad that happened today? Maybe. How about you tell us more in the comments?

Watch: Ceremony -- "World Blue" (Official Video)

DSC03201
Ceremony @ Le Poisson Rouge, 2/4/2012
Well THAT was fast! Chris had his mind blown by hardcore rockers Ceremony just twelve days ago at Le Poisson Rouge, and now Clash reports that the band has released a video for "World Blue," the new single from their upcoming album Zoo (due out March 5 on Matador).

Interestingly enough, the video consists of edited footage of said LPR show and may or may not feature Chris literally getting his head kicked. Check it out below!

Saturday night at Le Poisson Rouge was packed to the brim with an all-ages crowd witnessing a lineup of some of the best hardcore bands on the scene today. Amongst them were Pissed Jeans, who I’ve twice seen open for Mudhoney, and Ceremony who recently signed to Matador Records. It was my first time seeing Ceremony, and I was pretty blown away. There’s a reason Matador signed the group despite being primarily an indie rock-centric label. Their songs are amazing, and their live performance stirred up memories of my nights spent at places like Coney Island High, CBGB’s and Wetlands as a teenager. In other words: utter chaos–and loads of fun. Photos of both bands can be seen below the jump.

Ceremony’s debut Matador release Zoo comes out March 6th. The band just announced a US spring tour this morning, which includes several dates in the UK. If you’re a fan of classic hardcore punk bands, then do yourself a favor and see them. All tour dates and photos below…
