• Us local night owls got an excellent treat in the form of the legendary Pulp taking to the stage on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon - their first US TV appearance in 14 years - to perform "Common People" and "Like A Friend" in advance of their Radio City Hall residency beginning tonight. • In what was essentially The Show Heard 'Round The World, At The Drive-In played the first show of their celebrated reunion at Austin's Red 7, blowing everyone's minds in the process. And oh yes, there's footage of that (Stereogum)


• The cryptically awesome Aesop Rock is releasing his first new album in five years, Skelethon, on July 10 via Rhymesayers, and it's first single "Zero Dark Thirty" is a blistering lyrical whirl that reminds me why I became a fan back in the Labor Days days. Stream it below the jump (Rhymesayers)

Hi! Have some news.

• (Hopefully not former) Sonic Youth axeman and generally great guy Lee Ranaldo's new album, Between the Times and the Tides, is out next Tuesday (3/20), but you can stream all of its goodness right now over at Rolling Stone. (RS) 
• Legendary Minutemen bassist and also generally great guy Mike Watt is publishing a new memoir this May entitled On And Off Bass. He'll also be celebrating the release of this inevitably awesome book with two parties in NY and LA, the local version of which will take place on May 5 at Le Poisson Rouge and feature him & Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis and Murph performing as Hellride East (Slicing Up Eyeballs)
• Go see Garbage on tour! No, that pun will never get old, but you really ought to see Shirley Manson and the gang when they roll through the East Coast and Canada. The tour will include a stop at Webster Hall on May 22, with ticket info coming soon. (Garbage)
• Remember The Hives? They're back, in Pog form! Or more accurately, with a new album called Les Hives dropping on June 5 - check out its leadoff single "Go Right Ahead." (Stereogum) 
• Those Battles remixes we've been talking about are coming out as a full-on Dross Glop LP on April 17 via Warp. You'll also want to check out Battles drummer John Stanier and Black Moth Super Rainbow throw down a DJ set this Friday at The American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center - grab a ticket! BATTLES "Dross Glop" Remix Series Continues (+ Stream Shabazz Palace's "White Electric" Remix)

That four-part Battles Dross Glop 12" remix series we wrote about a couple of weeks ago is marching on. Having just dropped Part 1 three days ago, the band has announced that Dross Glop 2 will be available on February 21 in the States and February 20 everywhere else. This round of remixes include The Alchemist's take on "Futura," Kode9's rework of "Africastle," and a Shabazz Palaces remix of "White Electric" that you can stream below. Fun fun.

BATTLES Announce Four-Part Gloss Drop 12" Remix Series

Tyondai who? Math-rock prodigies Battles have proven that they're still complete bruisers both live and in the studio with the release of their second album Gloss Drop last year and their subsequent world tour. This year, the band will follow up on that success will a new remix series called Dross Glop (see? yeah clever).

Said series kicks off with a special 12" vinyl featuring remixes of Gloss Drop standouts "Wall Street" and "Sweetie & Shag" from Gui Boratto and The Field, respectively. The 12" drops on February 6, but you can preorder it now on Bleep. And if you want an idea of what you're getting into (or are just impatient), you can stream BOTH remixes after the jump.

And the circle is complete. Like their ATP Nightmare Before Christmas co-curators Les Savy Fav and Caribou before them, intense math rockers Battles have today unveiled their new Festival mix. Mixed by DJ EMZ, the compilation features cuts from Washed Out, The Field, Flying Lotus, and more, and you can stream and download the hell out of that after the jump below.

Tickets are still onsale for this weekend's Minehead festivities, so you slackers can make that happen. You can check out more details about final confirmations around the film schedule and associated events over here as well.

This Week's Nostalgia (10/31-11/6)

Even though things seem to be winding down as it gets colder and uglier out (yesterday was particularly bad), there are still plenty of reasons to make it out to some shows this fall. Personally, I've realized that I've been pushing myself a little too hard during the week, with the revelation that some scary incidents where my vision basically stopped working were the result of sleep deprivation and stress. So, a public service announcement: getting three hours of sleep and working a 9-5 job is not good for your health.

The second day of All Tomorrow's Parties I'll Be Your Mirror was a really diverse and solid lineup, leaving me pretty exhausted from a full day's worth of shooting (10 acts photographed total). Things really started to pick up towards the end, with the 1-2-3 punch of Battles, Swans and Ultramagnetic MC's, all before the beautiful closing set by headliners and curators Portishead. More on Portishead in a bit, but here's everything else we got to check out throughout the day...
