FN News Roundup: April 17, 2012
Dedicating this post to Levon Helm... our thoughts and love are with you and your family.
- After many hints, teases, singles, videos, and even a balloon launch, you can finally stream Jack White's new LP Blunderbuss a week in advance of its physical release. And in case you didn't grab a ticket to his upcoming Webster Hall show earlier today, the whole thing is going to be livestreamed. And directed by Gary Oldman. Who also happens to be Commissioner Gordon in movies sometimes (Pitchfork)
- Hey, didja like "Flutes"? We sure did. But it turns out that that's not the first official single from Hot Chip's upcoming LP In Our Heads. That honor belongs to "Night And Day," which you can stream now all of its Prince-nudging goodness and pick up on 12" vinyl on June 4, 8 days before the full album drops. Not to get unduly excited too early, but this new LP might be their best in history ever (Domino Records)
- Not content to chill out even after dazzling us New Yorkers with a 10-night residency, Björk has kicked off an eight-part Biophilia remix series this week. Check out the first entry, Current Value's "Crystalline" remix, after the jump. Very Nine Inch Nails-y (Purple)
- Van Halen is back! Again! They'll be playing the Izod Center in Joisey with Ky-Mani Marley (son of Bob) opening on July 13 - tickets are on sale on April 23 (BrooklynVegan)
- And oh hell yes, Ceremony actually WILL be playing with Screaming Females here in NYC, at Brooklyn's Warsaw as part of the Northside Fest on June 14! (Matador)

Hot Chip Get You Dizzy With "Flutes" (+ More 2012 Tour Dates)
Oh man. Having seen Al Doyle kick a ton of ass in affiliated band New Build (more on that later), the return of British dance wizards Hot Chip is even more exciting than when we first reported it. They just put out a (very dizzingly) in-studio video for the leadoff single "Flutes" from their upcoming album In Our Heads (out June 6), and today Pitchfork reports they've announced even MORE summer tour dates, including a stop at our very own Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn on July 18. We'll keep you posted on the ticket sale date.
Check out the video for that single along with all of the tour dates announced so far below!

Hot Chip Releasing New Album On June 12 (+ 2012 Summer Tour Dates)
The once and future kings of British dance-punk Hot Chip haven't released a new album since 2010's One Life Stand - likely because they've been busy rocking out with LCD Soundsystem and forming more dance-punk outposts like New Build, among other things. But as Pitchfork reports, Alexis Taylor and the gang will be back on June 12 with the release of their 5th LP, In Our Heads, which will be their first on their new label Domino Records (sorry DFA).
They're hitting the road three days after the album drops for a summer tour that includes Pitchfork's own 2012 Music Festival but mysteriously doesn't include a NYC date as of yet. Check out the tracklist and current tour dates below, and we'll keep you posted when they come rock another great show here.

New Build (members of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip) playing Mercury Lounge
By Geanna Barlaam
Please welcome Geanna as our new associate news editor. Already a contributor to FN, Geanna will be posting news stories on new and exciting bands in addition to our usual stream of nostalgia-related acts. All typos are 100% intentional. Enjoy! --Chris
In this sometimes bleak post-LCD Soundsystem world, hope for the future now comes in small snippets, as we do our damnedest to follow what dem band members be up to.
Cue New Build--a London-based band whose members (Al Doyle, Felix Martin and Tom Hopkins) hail from the very likes of LCD, Hot Chip and Planningtorock. Working as a kind of collective, the group's sound is like an atmospheric dance party, with hints of clubby trance mixed with their oh-so-catchy beats! It's the kind of stuff that makes you want to be in a warehouse. With sequins. And sweaty people. In the best way possible.
The band's second release is due out early this year (now available for pre-order ova here: http://newbuildband.com/), with tour dates scheduled through the spring. You can listen to New Build’s track “Do You Not Feel Loved?” below via the band’s Soundcloud page. We're totes excited to see them here at the Mercury Lounge on March 13th and 14th, so do get yo' dance shoes on and get ready fo' the par-tay! The March 13th date sold out fast, but tickets for the 14th go on sale tomorrow at 12pm.
We will be there, disco balls in tow.
