That tuning sheet must have been utterly repulsive. |
Though they may not have been able to fill Terminal 5 (thank god), Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks still had their share of fans at the more intimate Webster Hall where the show ended up taking place. Opening with the much beloved "Baby C'mon" off of 2005's Face The Truth, Malkmus and his band (bassist Joanna Bolme, drummer Jake Morris and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Clark) were in good spirits throughout the night, covering most of their recent album Mirror Traffic and other assorted goodies.
No, they didn't play any Pavement songs, and it's great that didn't have to--The Jicks have reached the point where their work stands apart from Malkmus's previous band, no longer living in the shadow of their popularity or fame. Though I would have liked to have heard more off of Face The Truth or the first SM album, it speaks volumes of Mirror Traffic that the songs are already so memorable and as fan-friendly as the "hits."
Below, check out a full set a photos from the night, including spacey, jammy openers Holy Suns, and The Jicks' setlist...
