Screaming Trees' "Lost" Album To Arrive In August

Possibly having seen my grunge-related post from earlier today, one of the true acknowledged "Godfathers of Grunge," Screaming Trees, announced that they'll be releasing the fruits of a secret session they held back in 1998 and 1999 at Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard's studio, just before they broke up in 2000 (about a decade before badass frontman Mark Lanegan became a bobblehead doll).

As reported by Pitchfork and The A.V.Club, these tracks will comprise a new "lost" album called Last Words: The Final Recordings, to be released on August 2nd. The record is produced by Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin and features some especially legit guest stars including R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and Queens of the Stone Age frontman / former Screaming Trees touring guitarist / general rock hero Josh Homme. No tour dates are planned in support of the album, however, so give it multiple spins when it drops and enjoy the video for "Nearly Lost You" below in the meantime (we agree with Pitchfork that it is, in fact, awesome).

  1. This is VERY exciting. I loved their "last" record so much. Their mellowed out sound really did the trick for me.
