Neko Case @ The Bearsville Theatre, May 12th, 2011

Last night Neko Case made up for the show she was supposed to play in Woodstock back in February, which was cancelled due to one of the 8 million snowstorms we got this past winter. "Thanks for understanding. We didn't want any of us or any of you to die so we cancelled," Neko said halfway through her set. The Bearsville Theatre is a somewhat intimate place for touring performers to play while touring the East Coast and want to stop in a quaint town embedded with music history.

The show ended up selling out, and the crowd was relatively packed with enthusiastic fans. Some so enthusiastic they couldn't stop talking the entire set. But Neko Case and her band sounded great, playing for 90 minutes, and taking only short breaks in between songs to joke with the audience about ex-boyfriends, ex-band members, sweat mustaches, and beards (two members of her band are heavily bearded). Neko's phenomenal voice, though heavily reverberated last night, is meant to be heard in a live setting. The warm acoustics of the Bearsville Theatre complemented her wonderfully.

Neko is on tour throughout the rest of the month before joining My Morning Jacket on tour in August. Her tour dates can be found in the article we posted yesterday. There were "No Photography" signs posted all along the venue (even though the venue originally told me it would be fine), so I had to sneak in some shots with my Canon point-and-shoot.
