Guided By Voices' drummer Kevin Fennell lists drum set on ebay for $55k, Robert Pollard fires him via email

Kevin Fennell with Guided By Voices @ Terminal 5 11/8/2010
As reported by multiple sources last week, classic-era Guided By Voices drummer Kevin Fennell, who played drums on GBV essentials Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, and countless others, listed his drum set on ebay with an asking price of $55,000.

Fifty-five thousand dollars.

According to the listing, "These drums have played three US and three European tours including the 2010 Reunion Tour. They have played Central Park Summer Stage and The Jon Stewart Show. On top of that...they are simply good looking." For delivery options, Fennell also adds, "Hand delivered and set-up by Kevin anywhere in the continental USA. And if you're nice he might just jam with you."

Well, sounds awesome. Except for the insane amount of money he's asking for. And that's where things go sour in this situation. Apparently, GBV mastermind Robert Pollard is not too happy with Fennell's asking price, in addition to touting the Guided By Voices brand in the listing (which Fennell explicitly has done).

A post written on Guided By Voices official Facebook page this evening stated:
Which prompted me to do a little research. What I found was a Facebook page, allegedly setup by Kevin Fennell, for the sole purpose of providing information on the ebay listing. Additionally I also found what ALLEGEDLY (must stress that) is an email exchange between Kevin Fennell and one Robert Pollard. You can read the cringe-worthy, and ultimately depressing, exchange below, posted under a comment from that page that reads:

Listen: New Robert Pollard (solo) song, "Obvious #1"

Differentiating between Guided By Voices material and Robert Pollard solo material is a strange task. On one hand, you can see a contrast in songwriting, production and overall tone--on the other hand... Robert Pollard is Guided By Voices for fuck's sake, so really, what is the difference??

Hot on the heels of releasing the first GBV record in eight years, Let's Go Eat The Factory, Robert Pollard is set to release a new solo album, Mouseman Cloud, and you can listen to the first single off the record "Obvious #1" below. Want more GBV material? Fear not: Class Clown Spots a UFO (their upcoming 18th studio album) is set to release later this year...

Watch Guided By Voices Perform On The Late Show With David Letterman

As foretold by prophecy (a.k.a. their official Facebook page), Robert Pollard and the merry men of Guided By Voices swung by The Late Show With David Letterman last night to rock through the first single off their new album Let's Go Eat The Factory, "The Unsinkable Fats Domino." Check it out below via The Audio Perv.

And yes, Greg Demos fell flat on his ass mid-performance. He's okay though and they're all still awesome.

Listen To Guided By Voices' New Track "The Unsinkable Fats Domino"

"Unsinkable" is a pretty accurate descriptor of Guided By Voices as well, actually. As we recently mentioned,  GBV's classic lineup wrapped their seemingly eternal reunion tour last month and are set to unleash their new album Let's Eat The Factory on January 1.

Today, you can stream the first single off the new album (and 7th on the tracklist overall), "The Unsinkable Fats Domino" over at Robert Pollard's website. You can pick up the 7-incher (cue joke here) on November 22 via Matador. It is radical, and I want more.

Robert Pollard to Release New Solo Album, Lord of the Birdcage

Garage rock guru, Robert Pollard, of Guided By Voices fame (?) is set to release a new solo album, entitled Lord of the Birdcage. We're still waiting for our advance copy but word has it the sloshed tunesmith reversed his usual songwriting process this time around by writing musical accompaniment to compliment previously written poems. Lord of the Birdcage will hit stores on June 7 or you can pre order here.
