More photos and a review of De La Soul at London's Indig02 over here! |
The legendary De La Soul have been pushing the boundaries of innovative hip-hop since they burst onto the scene in the late '80s, and as they celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, they're showing no signs of stopping. NME reports that Plug 1 (Pos) and Plug 2 (Dave) are getting ready to release a new self-titled concept album as First Serve on April 2, in which they're stepping into the roles of Deen Whitter and Jacob "Pop Life" Barrow to tell their (presumably semi-autobiographical) story of growing up in NYC and dreaming of making it big in the music world.
You can stream the first single from this "soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be made" called "Pushin' Aside, Pushin' Along" after the jump. The album's first rap skit, "Mrs. Whittier," is also available for viewing over at NME. Seeing as how De La pretty much pioneered the rap skit, we're totally cool with it when THEY do it. We'll keep you posted as more tracks from the album surface.
