Fiery Furnaces play their second Rockwood Music Hall show tonight

The Fiery Furnaces have always been one of the more memorable and unique bands that emerged during the early ’00 garage rock boom. Their staying power could be attributed to the fact that they’ve worked with loads of indie peers including Bob Weston (Shellac) and Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh), or it could be that they simply write great music. Either way, they’re definitely a band worth checking out.

The band played Rockwood Music Hall last night (5/4) and the Village Voice was there to review it. They play the same intimate venue again tonight (5/5). Their current tour is sans backup band, meaning just the brother & sister duo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger will be playing these shows. From the sound of it, they still bring their “A” game. We will be there to cover tonight’s show at Rockwood and will be back tomorrow with a full set of photos and review. Tickets for the show are still on sale, doors are at 9:30pm, no opening act is listed.

In related news, Eleanor Friedberger just signed to Merge Records and plans to release a solo album this summer, entitled Last Summer. The album will hit stores on July 12th. BrooklynVegan announced yesterday that she will be playing St. Celia’s Church on 6/18 as part of L Magazine’s Northside Festival, and you can buy tickets here. Expect a full set of tour dates in support of Last Summer to be announced shortly.
