Watch John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats) Sing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"

We can be kind of crotchety assholes about the holidays sometimes. Just yesterday, the FN editors were sitting in a pizza place trying to determine which Christmas song would most likely send us into a rampage (answer: this one). But we do love being with family and friends this time of year, and it's also damn cool when some of our favorite bands get in the holiday spirit as well.

Hot on the heels of The Music Tapes's Holiday Carolling Tour comes The Mountain Goats' frontman John Darnielle busting out his rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Christmas" for The A.V. Club. It's literally just him staring directly at the camera singing it at you, which is hilariously creepy. There's a reason he's doing that, but find out why after watching the video below.

As Merge reports, the band has just wrapped up touring around their latest LP All Eternals Deck and will be back out on the road starting on January 19 at Austin's Antone's. They'll be here in NYC on March 13 and 24 for Carnegie Hall's "The Music of the Rolling Stones: Hot Rocks 1964-1971" and the Kaufman Center's Ecstatic Music Festival, respectively. Check out the other tour dates after the video below.
