If you’ve been paying any attention to the funk and soul scene for the past decade, then you’ve probably comes across Daptone Records--a Brooklyn based record label that prides itself in recording strictly with analog tape at their own studio Daptone’s House of Soul. The studio is responsible for albums by Lee Fields, Charles Bradley, and perhaps most infamously Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black. At the forefront of the funk/soul revival is Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings (the label’s house band, featured on Back to Black), who have been hailed as a staple of live music in general.

This past week, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings played two shows in a row at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 6 and 7. Next week you’ll be able to catch the band again at Bowery Ballroom on December 13th and 14th, for which tickets are still available.
