Mogwai To Deliver New "Earth Division" EP In September

Via the Facebooks

Ahh, Mogwai. We still think you're completely awesome, even though that April show in NYC the FN crew was going to attend at Webster Hall got postponed to September due to Visa issues. But now we have even more to look forward to that month, as the post-rock titans have announced that they'll be releasing a brand-new EP, Earth Division, on September 12 via Rock Action and September 13 via Sub Pop!

Following up their excellent 7th studio album, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (which in my mind is still one of the most badass album titles ever), Earth Division will feature four brand-new tracks that the band says "highlight a creative departure from [Mogwai]’s trademark cinematic mantra of pulverizing, scorched guitar riffage, into a more recontextualised domain of hazy electronic distortion, accompanied by spiky wafts of violins, violas, cellos and double bass and jagged keys... The EP is a collaboration of barded guitar distortion and haunting piano, which might offer the listener something different, but it still carries the band’s hallmarks." Nice!

True to form, the tracklist is composed of some very clever song titles - although none beat out that of Hardcore closer "You're Lionel Richie" for hilarity in my mind. Check it out after the jump, plus videos for the  Hardcore burner "Rano Pano" and Mr. Beast's "Friend of the Night," both of which are very weird.

Earth Division EP Track Listing:
  1. Get To France.
  2. Hounds of Winter.
  3. Drunk and Crazy.
  4. Does This Always Happen?
